Why Should I become a Christian?           Top
Are you lonely? Do you want someone to love you with a guarantee that they will be there for you forever? Realistically some relationships, start out that way, but fail. Has this ever happened to you? Did you get hurt? Well God will never fail you, it is not in his nature to do so. God loves us and his love will never go away.  Romans 8:39
Nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  God's proof of his love is that he gave his only begotten son to die on the cross for our sins so we can have eternal life.  John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. Are there many people that would give their only son or daughter so that you could live? Well, this is what God did for you. Jesus was literally beaten brutally, mocked and spit on, unmercifully whipped 50 times, crowned  with thorns shoved into his skull, and then crucified. The crucifixion was were his hands and feet were nailed to a cross with spikes (similar to railroad spikes) nailed through them. Read Matthew 27:26-44. His blood was spilled for you. Romans 5:8-9 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.  He carried His cross through the streets until he reached the place where he would die. He was carrying this cross for you. See, all of us sin, so there had to be punishment for our sins. Jesus Christ took that punishment for us. Romans 3:25 For God sent Jesus to take the punishment for our sins and to satisfy God's anger against us. We are made right with God when we believe that Jesus shed his blood, sacrificing his life for us. God was being entirely fair and just when he did not punish those who sinned in former times (NLT). Through this we are able to be forgiven of our sins and then spend eternity with Jesus in Heaven. You may say, "I can not be forgiven for all the bad stuff that I have done." Yes you can! God loves you no matter what you have done. Ephesians1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace. Once we have asked for forgiveness, and if we mean it, then our sins are forgotten. Hebrews 10:17 Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.

You might say, "But I have to give up everything and life will be boring."

You will only have to give up your sinful deeds; however, God will not let you do it alone. He may take away certain desires and then you will want to give it up. When you become a Christian, Christ is in you, so you will want to do what is right. The problem is that if we try to do it ourselves, we will mess it up every time. God gives us new desires for things that are Holy. Come to God first and then worry about these other things.  If you wait until you get your life right, you will never accept Christ because it is impossible unless He helps us.  However, He can not help us live right because our own sin separates us from Him unless we ask for forgiveness.  You can not give it up unless you receive Jesus in your heart first. Only God can help you change, but he will only do it if you want him to. Why not do it the easy way, let God do it.  The Lord will give you a way out of the temptation to help you not fall into sin and to live a holy life.  1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.  We need to take the way out that the Lord gives us.

You might say, "I'm not willing to become a Christian now.  I'll do it later."

Remember God does not control us. He let's us make our own decisions. We make the decision to follow Him or not. You might not get a second chance to come to know Him. No one is promised tomorrow. People die everyday by car accident, plane crash, heart attack/stoke, etc. If a person doesn't know Jesus Christ and accepts him, then they will go to Hell. 2 Thessalonians 1:9 They will be punished with everlasting destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power. You might say, "If this God is so loving then why would he send me to Hell".  He does not do it to us.  We do it to ourselves by the sinful lives we live.  Revelation 21:8  But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.  Eternal life is a gift.  If we choose not to accept it, it is on us.  He died for us so that we could have eternal life with Him.  He did not have to do that, but that is how much he loves us.  He gives us plenty of chances to change our mind.  Jesus loves you, but wouldn't you expect Him to want us to love Him in return.  And if we love him, then it makes since that we would want to follow Him and ask Him into our heart. If we do not become a Christian, then we are rejecting Him and His gift of eternal life. 1 John 5:11-12 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. He still loves us even-though we reject Him, however, he can not give us eternal life because our sin separates us from the Lord. We have to make a sacrifice, but it is the best and the most joyful sacrifice that we will ever make. When we become Christians, God gives us happiness, joy, peace, and helps us out with stuff everyday, such as family or work situations. There are a whole lot more benefits to the Christian life. Yes you should be willing to follow Jesus completely, but he will give you so much more in return that it is always well worth the effort. When you become a Christian, you will wish you had done this sooner. Now ask yourself where you want to spend eternity? Heaven or Hell? The names of those who are truly a follower of Jesus Christ will be written in the Lambs Book of Life. Those who are not in it, will go to Hell. Revelation 20:15  And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.  Are you ready to give your life to Jesus Christ?

How to become a Christian        Top

To become a Christian you must be born again. This means accepting Jesus into your heart, living for him, and having a relationship with Him. To do this, follow these guidelines:

1) Realize and accept that you are a sinner and ask Jesus to forgive you. 1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

2) We must believe deep in our hearts that Jesus Christ died for us and that He has risen from the dead (Mark 16). John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.   Mark 16:16  He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

3) We must be willing to follow Jesus Christ completely. Mark 8:34
When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, "Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

Here is your chance to give your heart to the Lord.  You can say or model this prayer after your own. You need to mean it with all of your heart and soul:
Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I have sinned. But now I am truly sorry for my sins and I repent of them. I ask for your forgiveness.  Please come into my heart. I do believe in you and that you are the Lord and master of my life. I believe and have faith that you can save me so that I will have everlasting life in Heaven.  I believe that you died and rose again.  Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins so that I might be forgiven of my sins.  I wish live for you. Show me how to know you better. Teach me how to live like you want me to.  I surrender my life to you.  In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

What do I do now that I am a Christian?       Top

The following guidelines will strengthen and draw you closer to the Lord.

1) Pray to Jesus regularly and daily. Spend personal time with Him. In prayer: praise him, thank him, pray for others, ask for forgiveness of sins, and ask for things you desire. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18   Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (NKV).  Colossians 4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart (NLT).

2) Read the Bible, which is the Word of God, regularly and daily. God will speak to you through His world.  It will guide you in the Christian walk.  Matthew 4:4  But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.' "  We need to desire the Word of God 1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.  It is usually recommended to start with the book of John.

3) Tell others about Jesus Christ. This might be hard at first but ask God to give you the boldness, strength, and courage. He will help you. Luke 21:13-15 This will be your opportunity to tell them about me. So don't worry about how to answer the charges against you, for I will give you the right words and such wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to reply (NLT)!  Mark 16:15  And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature (NKV)."

4) Fellowship with other Christians. You knew the encouragement the Christian people will provide. They can give you advice on how to strengthen you walk with Christ. 1Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.  Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.  It is best to pray for the Lord to show you to the right church.  Don't get caught in the frills of the church.  Let it be the Lord's will, for only He knows the future.

5) Try to do what is right and love one another. Do your very best to live for God in all areas. The secret is to not give up if you happen to sin. Ask for forgiveness and turn from the sin. You need to be truly trying your absolute best in surrendering you life and obeying the Lord.  Suggested reading on lifestyle: Romans 12:1-21, Romans 13:13-14, Ephesians 4:22-24    God commands us to love one another as he loves us. John 13:34  A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
