What is the Enemy's Name?
 

          How can we fight an enemy if we do not know who it is?  Where did Satan come from and why does he hate us so much?  We have an enemy that we cannot fight with the flesh.  Satan's only desire is that we all burn in hell with him.  He knows where he is going.   Isaiah 14: 12-20

¹² "How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!
     How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations!
¹³ for you have said in your heart: "I will ascend into heaven,
    I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;
    I will also sit on the mount of the congregation
    on the farthest sides of the north;
¹⁴ will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.'
¹⁵ yet you shall be brought down to ***Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit.
¹⁶  "Those who see you will gaze at you, And consider you, saying:
    "Is this the man who made the earth tremble, Who shook kingdoms,
¹⁷ Who made the world as a wilderness And destroyed its cities,
    Who did not open the house of his prisoners?'
¹⁸ "All the kings of the nations, All of them, sleep in glory, Everyone in his own house;
¹⁹ But you are cast out of your grave Like an abominable branch,
    Like the garment of those who are slain, Thrust through with a sword,
    Who go down to the stones of the pit, Like a corpse trodden underfoot.
²⁰ You will not be joined with them in burial, because you have destroyed your land and slain your people.  The brood of evildoers shall never be named.

 ***Sheol: (Greek) the grave or unseen state

Revelation 12:7-12
⁷ And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought,
⁸ but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer.
⁹ So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
¹⁰ Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.
¹² Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time."

Pride was the downfall for Satan as well as for many Christians.  Lucifer was called many names for a reason.  Satan wanted complete control.  He believed that he should have been sitting on the thrown of God.  Satan hates us because we were created in God's image.  I believe that every time Satan sees us, he is reminded of God. 

Question:  Why do we need to know the names of the devil?  Is it important to know the names of the devil?

 It is important that we recognize who our enemy is and what his tactics are. "lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices."

Names for the Enemy

01. Abaddon = so called (Hebrew: Destroyer) = Revelation 9:11

02. Accuser of the brethren = Revelation 12:10

03. Adversary = (one who stands against) I Peter 5:8

04. Angel of the bottomless pit = Revelation 9:11

05. Antichrist = (the one against Christ) I John 4:3

06. Apollyon = (Greek: Destroyer) = Revelation 9:11

07. Beelzebul = (god of the flies, dung god) Matthew 12:24, Mark 3:22, Luke 11:15

08. Belial = II Corinthians 6:15

09. Devil = (false accuser, devil, slanderer) Matthew 4:1, Luke 4:2, 6, Revelation 20:2

10. Enemy = Matthew 13:39

11. Evil spirit = I Samuel 16:14

12. Father of all liars (a liar) = John 8:44

13. God (god) of this world = II Corinthians 4:4

14. Great red dragon = Revelation 12:3

15. Lucifer = (Roman rendering of morning star) = Isaiah 14:12

16. Man of sin = II Thessalonians 2:3

17. Murderer = John 8:44

18. Old serpent = Revelation, 12:9, Revelation 20:2

19. Power of darkness = Colossians 1:13

20. Prince of this world = John 12:31, John 14:30, John 16:11

21. Prince of the power of the air = Ephesians 2:2

22. Roaring Lion =1 Peter 5:8

23. Ruler of darkness = (understood as) = Ephesians 6:12

24. Ruler of the demons = Matthew 12:24

25. Ruler of the world = John 14:30

26. Satan = (Hebrew = adversary, Greek = accuser) I Chronicles 21: 1, Job 1:6,    John 13:27, Acts 5:3, Acts 26:18, Romans 16:20

27. Serpent = Genesis 3:4, 14, II Corinthians 11:3

28. Son of perdition = (destruction, ruin, waste, loss) = John 17:12

29. Strong Man = Mark 3:27

30. Tempter = Matthew 4:3, I Thessalonians 3:5

31. Thief = John 10:10

32. Wicked one = Matthew 13:19, 38

33. Unclean spirit = Matthew 12:43

34. The unholy trinity = Revelation 20:10 (is the devil, the beast, and the false prophet)
